Research shows that technologists are different to the general working population.

These differences effect their approach to accepting change, moving into leadership roles and developing their careers in ways that are distinct from other professionals. 

  1. Technologists have significantly higher levels of tough mindedness which impacts on their acceptance of change.
  2. They have lower levels of extraversion; studies have shown that as many as two thirds of technologists are introverted. 
  3. Technologists have lower levels of assertiveness, which correlates to introversion aspects such as shyness, reticence and timidity. 
  4. Technologists have lower levels of optimism, but studies have not yet clearly indicated why this is. It may be linked to the nature of technology work, critical thinking, focus on risk and disadvantages. 
  5. There is also evidence of lower levels of emotional stability linked to the critical nature and high pressure of technology goals and expectations leading to potentially higher levels of stress.


In summary, I can provide mentoring and coaching as an experienced global CIO and executive coach.
